Isolated from the outside world, New City boasts to be the only pure city – the only society free of the life-prolonging, but often dangerous, Dozer chambers. It is behind these walls that Josie dreams of escape. Her fear of capture is amplified when the Commander’s army captures Building X where her husband’s illicit Dozer complex is housed. Time is running out, and Josie must decide if reaching the mysterious outside world is worth the risk entailed.

Unfrozen eBook Susan Franceschina

I don't usually read sci-fi stories but this one was a good, quick story that I enjoyed. I liked the character of Josie and the emotions she portrayed. You couldn't help but feel for what she was going thru. All she wanted was to have Frenchy, her husband, be more human and loving again instead of the coldness that she feels from him as a result of sleeping in the Dozer that freezes time and age. Josie also wants to find freedom and escape the New City. Things turn deadly when the Commanders take over Building X compound and Josie and Frenchy manage to escape and she finally sees the loving man her husband used to be. I really liked the ending and the passion radiated between the couple.

Unfrozen eBook Susan Franceschina Reviews

I very much enjoyed this one. It is only just a few pages .Very well written for such a short read
The Unfrozen is a great short story about a woman torn between freedom and love in a dark and oppressive society. The story is able to combine serious concepts such as life, death and choice in an interesting and emotional manner. Even though the story is large in scope, dealing with topics such as society and despair, it is a great personal story at heart. This story is perfect for science fiction fans as well as fans of dramatic works.
Susan Franceschina transports readers into a unique world where humans live in New City - a walled place of existance supposedly impossible to escape. Josie and her husband Frenchy have a secret. They harbor the last Dozer complex in their basement. Sleeping in the Dozer tubes elongates Frenchy's life but changes him into a man with no dreams or passion. When the Commander's army take over the complex, Josie and Frenchy must risk their lives to leave New City and find what it means to really live again. A thought-provoking read about life, love, and humanity, with lots of vivid detail and heartfelt compassion for Josie.
This is a short story about a woman named Josie and her husband Frenchy, who live in a society that freeze themselves in order to live longer. The freezing may allow people to live longer, but it seems to have side effects that cause people to go mad, or become emotionally frozen. When I first started reading this short story I was mildly confused. I was clueless on what a Dozer was or a Dozer chamber. I have not decided if the confusion was a good thing or a bad thing yet. One part of me thinks not knowing what was going on peaked my interested, and had me reading in hopes to gain more knowledge of what was happening in the story. The other part of me thinks having a little more knowledge at the beginning of the short story, would have helped me get lost in the love story more easily. As you can see either way the story captured my interested, and I even read the story a second time after I understood everything that was happening. I really like Josie, and I wish this was a full novel so I could get to know her character more. The story is written beautifully, and I love the darkness of the writing. The ending of the story left me wanting to know more about what happen to Josie and Frenchy, and what is to become of the new life they have chosen. I recommend this short story to readers, it is a fast read and will definitely capture you.
A great story in which the author has you rooting for Josie, a woman who is living in a starless city with a husband who is going against the 'law' and forgets what its like to be human, or as she puts it 'unfrozen', literally. It had me wanting for human nature to prevail and had me grinning from ear to ear at the end! I'll definitely check out this author's next book.
